Permits & Applications

All building permit applications are handled through our new online permitting software, CivicReview. Once we receive your completed application, we will review it and email you with any further questions. Not sure if you need a permit? Click the link below for our cheatsheet!

Do I Need a Building Permit?

Permit Applications:

Inspections

To request an inspection, please use the “Messages” section in your Civic Review project portal. Follow these steps:

1. Access your Project Portal

Your project portal is created when you submit your application. Use the unique link provided in any Civic Review email related to your project  (no login required).

2. Navigate to the “Messages” Section

Once in your project portal, locate the “Messages” section.

3. Submit your Inspection Request

In the “Message” field, provide the following details:

  • Type of inspection requested
  • Preferred inspection date and time
  • Name and phone number for who is requesting the inspection
  • Onsite contact name and phone number
  • Any additional notes or site access instructions

4. Wait for Confirmation

City staff will review your request and confirm your inspection via a message in the portal.

Third-Party Inspection Firms

Pursuant to §10-6-160(2) and §15A-1-105 of the Utah State Code, the City has contracted with the following third-party inspection firms to conduct inspections in situations where the City cannot complete a requested inspection within three (3) business days after the day on which the City receives the request for inspection.

Authorized Third-Party Inspection Firms:

  • Beacon Code Consultant – (801) 564-0897
  • Shums Coda Associates – (844) 674-5179
  • West Coast Code Consultants – (801) 547-8133

Prior to contacting a third-party inspector, you are required to notify the City Building Department in writing, either by email or letter delivered to the City Building Department, that you are doing so.

Third-party inspections are not authorized until:

  1. The City has confirmed that it cannot conduct its own timely inspection; and
  2. You have notified the City that you intend to utilize the third-party inspection service.

Utah Code §15A-1-105(2)(b).

Do You Need a Special Event Permit?

If your event is open to the public, it takes place within the City’s right-of-way (such as streets, sidewalks, or public parks), has vendors, or amplified sound, you will need a Special Event Permit. A special event is an event occurring out of the ordinary course of everyday functions. Special events may include, but are not limited to:

Block Parties

Carnivals or Circuses

Concerts or Performances

Craft or Trade Shows

Demonstrations/Rallies

Farmer’s Market (Street Fair/Festival)

Lectures

Outdoor Movie

Parades

Parking Lot Sales (if not held on your own property)

Races (Runs/Walks)
